The weather changes frequently
The sun is out...but sometimes, so are the clouds. This is the Seattle area after all and if us lifestyle family photographers could predict Spring weather in this part of the world, we'd have the golden ticket. If it is predicted to rain during your family photo shoot, this post I wrote about photo shoots in the rain should help you prepare well in advance.
dress in layers
The weather can go from warm to cool to cold so preparing with a light sweater or jacket is a good idea. I usually recommend carrying one large rugged backpack with light jackets, snacks and water (it should be okay for you to put this pack on the ground).
wear pastel or neutral colors
You probably remember this scene from The Devil Wears Prada. I am always thinking about it during Spring. The flowers are going to be vibrant, so it would be best if you can let them do their thing while you do yours. I recommend neutrals or pastel versions of colors. If you need tips on the best palette, I email every family advice on what to wear. Pinterest is another great resource to look for inspiration. Just look up "Spring family photoshoots" and see what comes up.
flowers and spring blooms are out everywhere
We do multiple photo ops this time of the year and based on your location in the Seattle area, you can see yourself standing amongst some of the most beautiful blooms in the world. This is no exaggeration. You can take your pick from the cherry blossoms to the tulip fields, the tall magnolia trees, camelias or even the ferns. Everything comes alive in April and May. There is no shortage of beauty for you to feature in your family's photos.
Daylight saving time is on
This means that we're ready for longer days in the Pacific Northwest and the light in the evening is so beautiful for family photo shoots outdoors. After a winter that seems to last forever, it is a great relief to be able to begin Spring photo season. Family photographers are also not booked solid so there is a greater chance you can get your pick of weekends for photos.
